Diabetes is a common problem but by no means is it a normal one. A huge percentage of the population is suffering from diabetes. The cause of diabetes and the disease itself is closely connected with food intake. There are several foods that can invite diabetes or make it worse. To fully understand these we need to know more about different types of diabetes and how they affect us.

What is diabetes?

Diabetes is our body’s inability to produce insulin or/and make the insulin produce the desired effect of supplying blood sugar to our cells. Insulin is produced from the pancreas and is needed for producing energy from blood sugar. If not enough insulin is produced, there will be more blood sugar than necessary in blood. This problem is commonly called diabetes.

Different types of diabetes

There are a few types of diabetes and different measures are needed for different ones.

Prediabetes:

Frighteningly, this is the biggest portion. This is the portion of people that are at risk of type 2 diabetes. It is mainly people with overweight and an unhealthy lifestyle. As our society is progressing, we are seeing more people at the prediabetes stage. This is happening due to lack of physical activity and overconsumption of fast food. This portion of the population may contact diabetes at a later stage of life.

Type 1 diabetes:

This is a scary type of diabetes. It happens due to the body destroying the insulin that is produced from the pancreas. People suffering from this diabetes need constant insulin to absorb daily food. It mainly affects people at a young age.

Type 2 diabetes:

Most common form of diabetes. When we say diabetes, we are generally referring to this version of diabetes. It happens at the later stage of our life and it is due to low insulin produced by the pancreas or our body’s low insulin utilization. With this diabetes, one can maintain a healthy lifestyle by regular exercise and a strict diet.

Gestational diabetes:

This diabetes happens during pregnancy and usually goes away after the child is born. For this diabetes constant checkup and a special diet given by a consultant is needed.

Type B:

Type B insulin resistance & Monogenic diabetes are very rare forms of diabetes and they both affect at a very early age.

Who is more likely to suffer from which one

Type 1 diabetes:

This is an auto immune disease as such you can’t predict who will get it or not. But, if you have type 1 diabetes in your family tree there is a chance of getting it.

Type B insulin resistance & Monogenic diabetes:

Insulin resistance is a very rare form of diabetes and it may affect anyone. But cases show us that it mainly affects young children. Monogenic diabetes happens due to genetic disorders and as such, no pattern can be made of who may get it and who is free from it.

Gestational diabetes:

If you are pregnant and overweight, there is a good chance of suffering from gestational diabetes. Those who suffer from gestational diabetes may later develop type 2 diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes:

This happens mainly to the elderly population. If you are overweight and have a history of an unhealthy lifestyle, you may catch type 2 diabetes much early in your life.

Diabetes is a common problem in the modern lifestyle. We need to maintain a healthy lifestyle to maintain good health and live a long healthy life.
